Highland Healthy Living is a primary care clinic at 909 A Seton Drive in Cumberland, MD. We see patients of every age, we're open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and we're rated 4.9 stars across 35 reviews.
What we're trying to be is the place you don't have to think twice about. One clinic that handles the annual physical, the chest cold in February, the blood pressure that's been creeping up, and the thing you've been ignoring for a year and finally want somebody to look at.
Clinic Services
The clinic covers the full range of everyday and long-term care:
- Annual physicals and wellness exams
- Chronic disease management for diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, and thyroid
- Preventive screening and immunizations
- Same-day sick visits and walk-in appointments
- Lab work and results review
- Women's health and men's health screening
- Telehealth visits for follow-ups and medication reviews
- Referrals and coordination with specialists
Chronic disease care makes up the bulk of what we do, honestly. Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, thyroid disease, asthma and COPD, arthritis, and the mental health concerns that so often travel alongside all of it. Our chronic disease management program goes into more depth on how that works.
Same-Day and Walk-In Access
Here's the argument for coming here instead of an urgent care.
At an urgent care you're a stranger. Nobody there has seen your labs, nobody knows what you're already taking, and nobody knows this is the third time this has happened. So you explain your whole history to somebody who's meeting you for the first time, and then they make a decision based on a partial picture.
At your own clinic, the person seeing you already has all of it. That means better decisions and usually a faster visit. It also means the visit actually goes into your record instead of vanishing into a system nobody here can see.
We hold same-day appointments open for urgent problems, and we take walk-ins during regular clinic hours. Calling ahead at (240) 880-3220 is still the fastest route, mostly because it lets us tell you honestly how busy we are before you drive over. Our walk-in clinic page covers what to expect.
Not Sure Whether to Book or Just Come In?
Call (240) 880-3220 and ask. If your problem can wait a day, a scheduled slot usually gets you in and out faster than walking in.
Who We Serve
Most of our patients come from Cumberland, La Vale, and Ridgeley. We also see people from across Allegany County and from just over the line in West Virginia, since Seton Drive is an easy drive from a lot of directions.
The clinic serves every age group. Kids and teenagers, working adults, and seniors. That's deliberate. A family shouldn't need three separate offices and three separate record systems, and a lot of what makes primary care work is somebody knowing your history well enough to notice when something's off.
Why Patients Choose Highland Healthy Living
Cumberland has no shortage of medical offices, so the honest question is what's different here.
The answer patients keep giving, over and over, in almost the same words, is that they get listened to. Visits aren't a race. Questions don't get brushed off. April Dawson, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with more than 25 years of clinical experience, and she built the clinic around that one idea. Slow down, and you make better decisions.
The 4.9-star rating across 35 reviews is the measurable version of that. The unmeasurable version is how many of our new patients arrive because somebody they trust told them to come.
Insurance and New Patients
The clinic is accepting new patients. We take most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid.
Medicaid is worth flagging on its own, because it's genuinely difficult to find a primary care clinic in this area that accepts it. If you've been turned away elsewhere, call us. If you're unsure about your specific plan, phone the front desk before you book and they'll check it in a couple of minutes.
New to the Clinic?
Our new patient page covers what to bring and what the first visit looks like, start to finish.
